Klopp Unsure About Mignolet's Future
Simon Mignolet is facing an uncertain future at Liverpool after manager Jurgen Klopp hinted that he would not feature in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first-leg against Porto.
Klopp has rotated goalkeeping duties this season, with Mignolet the first choice in the Premier League and Loris Karius coming in for the Champions League. In recent weeks, however, Karius has taken over in the Premier League, with Klopp confirming that he had become the club’s official number one.
It was thought Mignolet, who featured in Liverpool’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat against West Brom, would get the nod against Porto but the manager appears to be siding with Karius for the game at Estadio do Dragao.
“To be honest I have not made the final decision but it is not the same situation as it was,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s clash, which is live on BT Sport 2 on the eir Sport pack.
Mignolet has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer but Klopp admits he does not know what will happen at the end of the season.
“Nobody knows about the future, or I don’t know about the future,” Klopp responded when asked about Mignolet.
“In this business it is always the same – it says nothing about that.
“It’s not for me to think about these kind of things. I have to make a decision for tomorrow night and that’s all. No problem.”
