New York Knicks were dominated in all the quarters in their open night game against Oklahoma City Thunders on 19th October, 2017 which winded up to their 105-84 defeat. Knick’s Kristaps Porzingis gave a good show but Russell Westbrook stole the spotlight with his first triple- double of the season
If the first team you face for the season after you are traded is your former side, you’ve got to show them what they let go and Anthony Carmelo did just that scoring 22 points in his revenge plot. Carmelo made a huge case with fellow debutant Paul George who scored Thunder’s high point of 28. Enes Kante who joined Knicks as part of Carmelo’s trade managed only 10 points against his former side.
Carmelo’s departure did cripple Knicks as Kristaps was the lone ranger who carried the team through and managed to tie it at 40 points, but their defensive weakness was just as painful as their offensive limitations and that exposed them to the Thunders. On a lonely opening night, Kristap was able to gain highest scoring point of 31 and 12 rebounds, something you can not often attain if there’s Russell Westbrook on the court.
Though Kristap was good, Westbrook took the day with his first triple double of the season in the opening night game scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists. Westbrook surpassed Oscar Robertson‘s triple-double record with his 42nd in the 2016/17 season. As people were wondering if he will pick up on that this season, he gave them an answer on the court.
